About NIE

What is NIE?

Newspaper in Education, NIE, is an international program begun in 1955 to help advance the use of newspapers in schools. The main purpose of the program is to improve reading, spelling, writing abilities and to encourage children to become more aware and involved in the happenings of their community, region, state, country and world.

The Salisbury Post has had an NIE program for more than 10 years. The newspaper is delivered to over 3,500 students each year to more than 100 classrooms in Salisbury/Rowan schools.

This year the Salisbury Post NIE program will expand to include online tools for teachers, students, parents and sponsors.

In addition to the expanded online tools, the program will offer special sections throughout the year sponsored by area businesses that wish to provide teaching resources at no cost for the educators in Salisbury and Rowan County.

The Salisbury Post is a proud supporter of the Salisbury-Rowan School System. Thank you for your dedication and please let us know how we can assist you in your educational endeavors in 2007-2008.
